Black Friday spending may be a national sport, but it's not equal across the country. A recent study indicates North Dakota shoppers spend more money on Black Friday than shoppers in other states.

North Dakota shoppers were reported as spending $398 on average, which amounts to a whopping 7.5% of their median monthly income.

Those in Massachusetts were a close second, with an average spend of $383, representing 5.9% of their monthly income.

Texas was a distant third with an average spend of $336, or 6.8% of their monthly income.

Rounding out the top five were Wyoming and California.

If you're planning to shop tomorrow, you may want to get your phone charged. While Black Friday still brings people to the mall, research indicates that a full 71% of shoppers will now shop online for their post-holiday treasures.

Clothes and shoes are still popular Black Friday purchases. Other popular gift purchases include gift cards, technology, and video games.

Shoppers may want to consider what they're getting, as certain Black Friday deals are better than others. A consumer spending expert reports that some of the best Black Friday deals are on technology, hardware, home items, toys, electronics, and games.

Also, some coveted gift items make the list of the best deals, including luxury fashion and beauty goods, and eco-friendly products.

However, if you can wait a little longer, sales on larger-ticket home items like mattresses, appliances, and furniture tend to be better on President's Day, Memorial Day, or Labor Day.

NBC lined up a group of bestselling items from Black Friday 2021 to give you inspiration. It includes technology like Apple Airpods, Nintendo Switch, Oculus VR, but also more eclectic gift items such as Ancestry DNA kits, a fancy toothbrush, and a Ninja Foodi.
