Faribault City Council has updated its ordinance to allow patrons of any city park to enjoy a canned alcoholic beverage without first needing to seek special permission. Rollingstone veteran accepts Quilt of Valor
William “Bill” Schell, of Rollingstone, was presented a Quilt of Valor at the Winona American Legion. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and went to Naval Station Great Lakes in Chicago for boot camp. He was on Brother Duty, with his brother Ed, on the USS Bayfield stationed in Long Beach, Calif., and had a tour to Vietnam for two years and 13 months as a welder. He was sent to welder school and then worked with the Navy Seal team for six months back in Vietnam on night boat duty in the open waters, which was a pretty dangerous job. In October 1969, Bill was discharged from active duty in the U.S. Navy.
Parents express support for Rosa Parks Charter High School
(ABC 6 News) — The Rosa Parks Charter High School met Thursday, July 25, and discussed an investigation into allegations made against the school during a closed session. According to a letter obtained by ABC 6 News from a board member to families, over the past six months, several allegations against the school were reported to their authorizer, the Minnesota Guild of Public Charter Schools.
Lonsdale Community Days grand marshal announced
Scott Pelava, owner of Lonsdale Auto Works, was chosen as the 2024 grand marshal for Lonsdale Community Days, happening on Saturday, August 10. Pelava opened Lonsdale Auto Works in 2005, providing service to the Lonsdale area for 19 years so far. He has been an active member of the Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC), serving two terms on the board of directors for them. Chamber Executive Director Shanna Gutzke-Kopp says that he has been “constructively working with staff, committee members & business leaders.”

Canadian Taylor Pendrith leads the 3M Open in pursuit of his 2nd victory of the year
BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Taylor Pendrith shot a 7-under 64 on Friday to take a two-stroke lead over Matt NeSmith into the weekend in the 3M Open. Playing in windier afternoon conditions, Pendrith made a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-4 16th and tapped in for another birdie on the par-5 18th. He had a 12-under 130 total at the TPC Twin Cities, playing the first 36 holes without a bogey. The 33-year-old Canadian won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May in Texas for his first PGA Tour title. He tied for fifth last week in the Barracuda Championship in California. “Today was pretty tricky with the wind, it was blowing pretty hard at times, so my speed was great all day and stayed really patient,” Pendrith said. “I didn’t really have many good looks through the first hour I would say of golf and was able to stay patient and make a couple, made a couple longer ones, which was nice.”

Alexandria-based “KOOL TV,” which had aired on Selective TV’s K21GN-D/21.1 and streamed online, has shut down. The channel had offered a weeknight newscast hosted by veteran broadcaster Mark Anthony and a lineup of syndicated programming.
