City police probing Wednesday shooting
The Dunkirk Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the city on at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday. Officers were alerted to the incident on the 300 block of Washington Avenue and learned that one person was struck by gunfire. The injury at this time does not appear life-threatening. The victim was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle and later transferred to ECMC in Buffalo. Police say the incident was targeted at people who know each other.
City School Board Of Education Gets Construction Update
As the Jamestown Public Schools District prepares for opening day in September, Board of Education members heard an update on construction projects. JPS Director of Buildings and Grounds and Transportation Carl Pillittieri told board members Tuesday there are three buildings in which the district has projects: The Raymond J. Fashano Tech Academy, Milton J. Fletcher Elementary School, and the Jamestown High School.

Mary Ellen Megerle Skidmore of Southern Pines formerly of Jamestown NY passed away peacefully on August 3. 2024. Mary Ellen was born on November 5, 1925 in Philadelphia Pa. She attended Cheltenham High School and went on to graduate from William & Mary College. Mary Ellen married Stephen Skidmore in 1950. They were married for 66 years.
Public Asked To Help Install Mayville Playground Equipment
MAYVILLE – Some new playground equipment is coming to the village this fall and the community is asked to help install it. During this week’s Village Board meeting, it was announced that the village is adding new pieces and making improvements to some of the equipment at Lakeside Park. They’re also getting a new playground at Pearl Gravit Memorial Park, and installing some musical playground equipment to the Village Green in the downtown area.

Corry Area Man Charged with Fatally Shooting Son
Pennsylvania State Police arrested a Corry-area man for fatally shooting his son Sunday evening. Gary S. Hulihan, 72, was arraigned Monday morning on charges of homicide, discharging of a firearm into an occupied structure, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He is being held in the Erie County Prison without bond.

Sinclairville Woman Charged with Arson in July House Fire
A Sinclairville woman has been charged with 3rd-degree arson for allegedly setting fire to a residence in the village on July 23rd. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office announced Monday afternoon that 53-year-old Vicki Rumsey turned herself in on a warrant. Firefighters from six area departments battled the fully involved fire at 38 East Avenue. Preliminary findings by the Sheriff's Office Fire Investigation Team suggested that the fire was suspicious in nature. Further investigation found that Rumsey allegedly intentionally set the house on fire, causing heavy damage. She will be arraigned on the charge at the Chautauqua County Jail.
