Falconer Man Sentenced in Arson Fire in Kennedy
A Falconer man has been sentenced for setting a fire that destroyed two houses in Kennedy. Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced that 30-year old Aubrey Baize was sentenced Monday in Chautauqua County Court to a state prison sentence of four to 12 years after being convicted of Third Degree Arson.
Dunkirk Common Council Meeting Cancelled Today

Dorothy L. “Dot” Fleming, 92, of Warren, PA, passed away on Friday July 12, 2024, after a brief stay at the Warren Manor. Dot was born September 13, 1931, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late Calvin and Ethel Chamberlain Slagle. Dot was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School. When she married and started her family, she volunteered as a “Gray Ladies” at the Warren General Hospital 54 years, delivering mail, flowers and gifts throughout the hospital. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross, working many blood drives throughout the years. She also worked alongside her husband at the National Forge Credit Union for 12 years.
Panama Accepts DirtWorx Sidewalk Bid For Sidewalk Project
PANAMA — The village of Panama has accepted a bid from DirtWorx Excavating for the village’s upcoming sidewalk project. The board had asked the company for a quote, with currently $35,000 to work with in the budget. The quote was given for the cost of doing 200 feet in a random area and 400 feet on Wesleyan Street. Discussion focused on that last time the board wanted to ask for 200 feet for both, and that it would be a good option for them to still do the 400 feet on Wesleyan to continue work already done there. Other questions included where the priority is for the random, specifically if North Street needs to be the priority or School Street.

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Center Building in Little Valley was closed Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. due to a waterline break inside the building. Departments the closure effects include the DMV Office, Treasurer's Office, Clerk's Office, Office of Emergency Services, Administration and Legislative Offices, Economic Development, Planning, and Tourism Offices, Human Resources Office and all Little Valley courts offices, District Attorney's Office and County Attorney's Office.

UPDATE: Strong thunderstorms approaching GLOW region
UPDATE, 12:05 p.m.: The National Weather Service is advising that a line of strong thunderstorms is expected to affect the region through 12:45 p.m. At 11:45 a.m., Doppler radar was tracking thunderstorms along a line extending from near Albion to 11 miles southeast of Fredonia, extending northeast to Alden and to Oakfield in Genesee County. The line is moving east at 55 mph.
Having A Heart: Skunks’ Player Goes Above And Beyond For Young Fan
One little girl’s Jamestown Tarp Skunks experience would have been ruined recently if not for the compassionate actions of one player. Shannon Fischer reported that her six-year old daughter had dropped a baseball that she had a few of the players autograph for her. However, Fischer’s daughter became heartbroken when she dropped the ball and lost it in the bleachers Thursday at the Russell E. Diethrick Park.
