Ellington, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are charging two men with the theft of cooking oil from a local restaurant.

It was a little after 5:30 Tuesday morning when police responded to a burglary in progress at a restaurant in Ellington.

The owner said 34-year-old Jonathan Gutierraz-Rosario and 29-year-old Ronald Gutierrez-Sant were pumping oil from the rear of the restaurant into the back of a van.

The suspects fled but were later stopped on Interstate 84 in Vernon.

That's where troopers say they discovered a large tank in the rear of the van.

Both suspects said they were traveling home to New York but didn't say from where they were coming.

Both are facing a variety charges including trespass, larceny and possession of burglar's tools.

Bonds for both men were set at $100,000 apiece.
