Emporia’s latest mural to be featured during First Friday Art Walk
Emporia’s latest mural is almost finished, and it’s ready to be celebrated as part of the city’s First Friday Art Walk. The mural is on the north side of Jack’s Lawn and Pool at 829 Commercial, the featured presenter for Friday’s event. First Friday Art Walk developer Kaila Mock says this is the latest mural through the work of the Community Art Alliance, a venture of Visit Emporia.

Citizen asks Great Bend council to revisit golf cart ordinance
In a span of six weeks, legalizing golf carts on city streets has been discussed three times at Great Bend City Council meetings. On May 20, the council did not have the minimum of five votes needed to pass a new ordinance. The topic was revisited June 17 with more council members present, but the governing body voted 6-to-1 to deny making golf carts legal on city streets, citing lack of support, safety and extra enforcement for the police department as reasons against the idea.
