Wichita hospital warns of increasing disease cases with children
Pediatricians in the Ascension Medical Group are reporting an increase in cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HMFD) and mononucleosis among children in the Wichita area. HFMD and mono are highly contagious and they are often spread through close contact, including sharing drinks, utensils and other personal items. HMFD mainly affects children under the age of 5, causing fever, sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Mono is more common in adolescents and young adults, with the symptoms including fever, sore throat, and fatigue.

The year-old male pit bull mix joined Emi Griess from Helping Hands Humane Society in a visit to Eye on NE Kansas. An Emporia woman was hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision south of Emporia Friday afternoon. The accident was reported at 4:45 pm at the intersection of Kansas Highway 99 and Road 150, two miles south of Emporia. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2011 Cadillac Escalade, driven by 81-year-old Charles Jeanneret of Olpe, was traveling northbound on K99 behind a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 24-year-old Neida Rosales of Emporia, when the Traverse slowed to make a turn onto Road 150.

Emporia’s latest mural to be featured during First Friday Art Walk
Emporia’s latest mural is almost finished, and it’s ready to be celebrated as part of the city’s First Friday Art Walk. The mural is on the north side of Jack’s Lawn and Pool at 829 Commercial, the featured presenter for Friday’s event. First Friday Art Walk developer Kaila Mock says this is the latest mural through the work of the Community Art Alliance, a venture of Visit Emporia.
