Elmira Heights man arrested on child sex abuse charge

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — An Elmira Heights man was arrested on a charge related to child sex abuse that allegedly happened a decade ago.

Christopher McCheyne, 28, was arrested after a multiple-month-long investigation into the reported abuse. According to the Elmira Heights Police Department, the investigation started in April 2024 when two individuals came forward with information about the alleged abuse.

Police say that the two people reported that McCheyne sexually abused them about 10 years ago over the course of two years. The alleged victims were five to six years old at the time of the reported abuse, and McCheyne was 18 years old at the time.

McCheyne was charged with predatory sexual assault, more than one victim (a class A2 felony).

McCheyne’s charge was read in the Elmira Heights Court, and he was taken to the Chemung County Jail. He is currently being held at the jail without bail.

The Chemung County Child Advocacy Center assisted the Elmira Heights Police Department with this investigation.
