ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Catholic Charities will host a domestic violence awareness event next weekend at the Elmira Pioneers baseball game.

Community members are invited to enjoy a night of baseball and also learn how they can become aware of and take action against domestic violence at the Pioneers game against the Newark Pilots on Saturday, July 13. The game will begin at 6:35 p.m., and the gates will open at 5:35 p.m.

Southern Tier STARQuest challenges you to visit libraries

During the game, attendees are encouraged to wear purple since it is the color for domestic violence awareness. Purple shirts will be available for sale, as well as a jersey raffle and a 50/50.

All of the proceeds made from the shirt and raffle sales will benefit Catholic Charities’ First Step Victim Services program, which assists victims of crime, mainly those who are victims of domestic violence, by providing them with essential services. There will also be a photo booth station and giveaways.

To secure tickets for the game, you can call the Elmira Pioneers at 607-734-2690. For more information about the First Step program, visit the Catholic Charities website or call 607-535-2050 to speak with an advocate.

If you are a domestic violence victim and need help, First Step’s local 24-hour hotline can be reached at any time by calling or texting 607-742-9629.
