Power outages due to storm damage in the Twin Tiers

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Our area has seen a lot of power outages yesterday and today due to the storms. With storms still possible tomorrow, more complications may still be with us.

Only 19,000 customers are without power as of 1:30 in the afternoon. This is a big step since power outages were at 24,000 earlier in the day.

The reason for the mass amount of outages is due to the straight line winds. Those strong winds were knocking down tree branches, which would take down wires and telephone poles.

NYSEG Communications Manager Alexis Arnold says that most of the region should regain power by this evening, but there is still some people who may be without power for a couple more days due to all the damage.
