ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – The John W. Jones Museum will be receiving a $45,000 grant, as announced by Congressman Nick Langworthy.

The grant comes from the Appalachian Regional Commission and will be used to fund plans for the expansion of the museum. This grant will be matched by an additional $45,000 from local sources, which will bring the total project funding to $90,000.

“The John W. Jones Museum honors a local hero and provides meaningful learning opportunities about his life and the Underground Railroad,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This federal investment, matched by local funding, will allow the museum to increase its visitor capacity and expand its programming, ultimately allowing more visitors to engage with and learn from this important piece of our history.”

The museum will be seeing an expansion due to an increase in demand, as it is currently limited to only eight visitors at a time. With the funding, the museum will hire an architect to complete the pre-developmental activities required for expansion construction.
