Notre Dame wide receiver commit receives massive honor to participate at 2024 US Army Bowl

Notre Dame has made a living off of targeting the sons of former NFL fathers, banking on those football genes and physical upside. They have continued to do that in the 2025 recruiting class, including 2025 Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic wide receiver commit Elijah Burress.

He is the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants star pass catcher Plaxico Burress. The 6-5 towering wideout played in the NFL for 11 years, hauling in 553 receptions for 8,499 yards and 64 touchdowns. He won Super Bowl XLII with the Giants, winning 17-14 over the New England Patriots. Burress hauled in the game winner in that contest.

Now his son is garnering recognition for his talents on the field. It was announced recently that the younger Burress was invited, and will participate in the 2025 US Army Bowl that is sponsored by Signing Day Sports. This event will feature over 100 of the top recruits in the 2025 class, which will take place in Frisco, Texas in January.

The 6-0, 175-pound pass catcher has been an extremely unique player to follow from a recruiting perspective. Despite being the son of a former first round pick and Super Bowl champion, his offer list was pretty underwhelming. Burress ended up opting for the Irish over an offer list that included Duke, Cincinnati, Temple, Toledo, Liberty, James Madison, ECU, Marshall, Buffalo, and UMass.

Burress is considered a four-star recruit and is pegged as the No. 43 wide receiver on the ESPN recruiting ranking. The other major recruiting rankings have him listed as a three-star recruit.

Notre Dame is banking up on the upside and route running chops. They certainly aren’t banking on current production. As a junior, Burress hauled in 25 receptions for 434 yards and five touchdowns. He was coming off of an injury riddled sophomore year so the hope is that he takes a massive step as a senior.
