    More than $450,000 grant awarded to the Elmira Corning Regional Airport for quality improvements

    BIG FLATS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The Elmira Corning Regional Airport was granted more than $450,000 in funding on Wednesday which will be utilized in upgrading several facilities at the airport.

    According to a release from Congressman Nick Langworthy’s Office, $479,291 in taxpayer-funded grant money was awarded to the airport as part of the FY24 Airport Improvement Program under the FAA.

    The release states that funding will be used to update the existing airport layout plan with a comprehensive master plan narrative and to update the pavement management plan, including a detailed condition index survey.

    The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems.

    The release adds that these funds are critical for the continued growth and safety of the aviation sector and for meeting the changing needs of the communities they serve.
