Steamers cruise in NYCBL semifinal opener, Pios game gets rained out

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The Hornell Steamers picked up another win, while the Elmira Pioneers saw their game washed out.

The Hornell Steamers rolled to a 9-1 win, on Wednesday. The Steamers rode impressive late game offense past Dansville, in Game 1 of the NYCBL West Division Championship Series. In a game that was moved to Hornell’s Maple City Park due to weather, Elijah Nichols and Brody Langlotz delivered outstanding offense.

Nichols and Langlotz combined for 5 RBI to help the Steamers add 8 runs through the final 3 innings. Jeremy Yanow got the start for Hornell, going 8 innings, with 5 strikeouts. Alex Dupuy closed out the effort with a perfect 9th.

Game 2 of the series moves to Dansville on Thursday, at 2 p.m. If the Gliders extend the series with a win, a decisive Game 3 will be played later that night at 7 p.m. in Hornell.

In the PGCBL, the Elmira Pioneers and Auburn Doubledays played 2 innings at Dunn Field, before Mother Nature brought an end to the contest. Auburn opened the scoring in the 2nd with a walk, before the Pios pulled off a inning ending double play. In the bottom half, Evan Blanchard and Wellsboro’s Darryn Callahan got on base, but heavy rains halted the game.

The Pioneers will next head back to Auburn for a Thursday night game, at 7:05 p.m. For fans who attended Wednesday’s rain out, tickets will be honored at Saturday’s home matchup against Geneva. The action kicks-off at 6:35 p.m. with fireworks following the game.
