As we inch closer to the 2024 NHL Draft, The Hockey News will be diving into prospect options for the New York Islanders to select at No. 20.

After taking a look at Michael Hage and Adam Jiříček , we now examine center Sacha Boisvert.

The Trois-Rivières native scored 36 goals with 32 assists for 68 points in 61 games for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

In eight playoff games, Boisvert scored three assists. He also served as alternate captain for the Lumberjacks and is now committed to the University of North Dakota.

A young Boisvert produced well in the 2022-23 season, scoring 45 points in 58 games, but it was not until this season that he exploded.

According to an interview with Russ Cohen of EliteProspects, Boivert filled out his 6’ 2” frame, improved his initial strides, and worked on his two-way game before this season.

Ultimately, Boisvert’s excellent shot is what sets him apart from many of his peers. Boisvert possesses a variety of shot selections, as he can unload from distance or use a deceptive wrister.

The Canadian’s physicality and strength on the puck make him a prime power forward, according to EliteProspects . He pushes the pace and puts added effort into every shift.

Don’t sleep on his playmaking, though. Boisvert excels with almost every type of pass, especially those on rush plays.

Boisvert is consistently ranked by scouts and organizations in the low to mid-20s, so the Islanders’ No. 20 pick should fall right around his draft position.

His availability will depend on whether other center prospects remain on the board.

Additionally, Boisvert’s physicality and goal-scoring prowess could make him a coveted asset to teams before the Islanders.

Why would Boisvert be a good option for the Islanders?

Similar to Hage, Boisvert is a center, which is an especially scarce position in the Islanders’ prospect pool.

Some scouts see Boisvert fitting as a winger at the NHL level, but his particular style of play will make him useful regardless of position.

Boisvert’s physicality, work ethic, and pace fit the intensity of playoff hockey.

This would match well with the Islanders, who are in their current window with Barzal, Horvat, Nelson, Dobson, and Sorokin.

While Boisvert will play NCAA hockey, he is more NHL-ready than other prospects in the draft. If the Islanders want a forward who can play any role and provide both scoring and grit, Boisvert is their guy.

He still needs work to become a complete player, but Boisvert presents a safe option for the Islanders at pick No. 20 while possessing an elite-level shot.
