Islanders Bring Back Mike Reilly On One-Year Deal

After a quiet first few hours of free agency, the New York Islanders re-signed defenseman Mike Reilly to a one-year contract on Monday.

Reilly’s deal will come with a $1.25 million cap hit for the season, per The Athletic's Arthur Staple.

After joining the Islanders off waivers from the Florida Panthers, Reilly played a key role in solidifying their defensive depth. In 59 games with the club, he tallied six goals and 18 assists for 24 points, the bookend categories being career highs.

He also earned the trust of head coach Patrick Roy in big spots, clocking in 17:15 on average a game.

The move comes as the Islanders await decisions on the future of Sebastian Aho, who hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In other moves, the team also signed forward Anthony Duclair to a four-year deal worth $3.5 million annually, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Roy coached him in juniors.
