When the 2024 NHL Draft came to an end, New York Islanders fans were still stunned that the best scorer in the draft, Cole Eiseman , fell to them at No. 20.

But Eiserman's selection overshadowed the Islanders' selection of two-way centerman Kamil Bednarik , whom they selected with their second-round pick (No. 61).

Bednarik scored 26 goals with 39 assists for 65 points in 61 games with the U.S. National U18 Team before scoring 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 27 games with the U.S. NTDP Juniors of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

With the U.S. team at the World Junior Championship, Bednarik tallied two goals and four assists for six points in seven games.

In attendance for his big day were his parents, his father, Kamil Sr., and his mother, Miriam, who drove 26 hours from Chicago.

However, when Bednarik's name ricocheted around The Sphere, his father wasn't physically by his side.

NHL Network's Jon Morosi shared a powerful story about Bednarik's father, an accident that affected him and his family greatly, but how what happened and the effects have not impacted Kamil Sr's support of his son.

"As Kamil Jr. was preparing to leave home for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, his father was injured in a roofing accident. The impact left Kamil Sr. without the use of his legs. He has spent his days in a wheelchair ever since."
