Woman bites, spits on officers during LI arrest

ELMONT, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — An 18-year-old woman was arrested for assaulting two officers during an arrest on Long Island on Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to detectives, at 3:25 p.m., officers responded to a Belmont Boulevard residence in Elmont for a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers were informed that the Zaire Steele, 18, was involved in a verbal argument with another woman in the residence.

While responding officers attempted to place Steele under arrest, she resisted and refused to comply with verbal commands.

Steele was allegedly violent and combative during the arrest and bit one officers on the hand, causing injuries, officials said.

Additionally, she spit on another officer, police said.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Steele was charged with assault, harassment, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. She will be arraigned Monday.
