IDOT checks for post-flooding damage
All in all, an IDOT engineer says Tuesday’s flash flooding did not cause as much damage as one might think. Some bridge deck repairs will be needed on 4 or 5 structures, and there has also been some exposed guardrail posts and damage to the reservoir wall near the city of Nashville.

Grafton and Shiloh, Other Area Communities Hit Hard by Severe Rainfall
GRAFTON/SHILOH – The Metro Illinois region and Jersey and Calhoun Counties experienced substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours, with several areas reporting significant accumulations and ongoing flash flood warnings. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Shiloh, where 6.85 inches fell and Grafton, with an estimated 5 to 7 inches fall contributing to widespread concerns about flooding.
Mud buildup in underground cave may have led to massive sinkhole in Alton park
A buildup of mud and sediment in an “ancient cave” that gave way may be the cause of a massive sinkhole in an Alton Park, Mayor David Goins said Tuesday. Goins said that’s based on preliminary findings by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration, but officials of the company that operates a limestone mine under the collapsed area said that they are unaware of that theory and that the investigation into the cause is continuing.
