Friday evening, the Le Sueur-Henderson Senior Legion baseball team hosted Ely and after falling behind 4-2 after four innings, they needed a rally to come up with a victory. By scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth inning, LS-H tied the game 4-4 and in the bottom of the seventh, Brody Berndt came through in the clutch with an RBI single that earned his squad the walk off victory.

Berndt pitched six innings for Le Sueur-Henderson, allowing four runs on eight hits before Ethan Hathaway entered the game in the seventh to earn the win.

Ely struck first with a two-out RBI single to left that saw their runner at second beat the throw home to go ahead 1-0. In the bottom of the first, LS-H began a two-out rally when Logan Feeney was hit by a pitch before Berndt drew a walk. Braylon Hoffman hit an RBI single since to center, scoring Feeney and tying the game 1-1.

LS-H took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Ethan Hathaway blasted an RBI single to center field. Ely had an answer in the top of the third inning when a pitch got to the backstop allowing a runner to score from third. A single that got through the infield gap between first and second allowed Ely to take its first lead of the day with a pair of runs.

In the bottom of the fifth, LS-H began its rally in earnest when Feeney scored on a wild pitch after having reached the bags on a hit-by-pitch and advanced to third on a flyout deep to right. Another wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning allowed Joe Lewis to make the jump from third and tie the game at 4-4.

Ely put a pair of baserunners on in the top of the seventh but LS-H got out of the jam with a groundout to shortstop to end the threat.

Hathaway led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk and during the next two at-bats, stole second before advancing to third on a fielder’s choice. Berndt came through with the walk off hit to right field with two outs as Hathaway crossed home plate, giving LS-H the 5-4 victory.

After a pair of games Monday and Tuesday ahead of a short break for Independence Day, LS-H will return to the diamond Monday, July 8 when the team hosts Janesville with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
