As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gear up for their upcoming tour, Buckingham Palace is reportedly uneasy about the implications of the visit, which some see as a challenge to royal conventions and a bold step by the Sussexes to redefine their public role.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s planned visit to Colombia this November has stirred significant unease within royal circles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will embark on their second independent tour since stepping back from their official royal duties, this time to engage with various causes including cyberbullying—a key focus of their Archewell Foundation.

The invitation from Colombia's Vice President, Francia Márquez, underscores the high-profile nature of the visit. The tour will encompass Bogotá, Cartagena, and Cali, areas chosen for their cultural and social relevance.

Márquez's statement emphasized the Sussexes' role in highlighting global issues and enhancing Colombia’s international profile, particularly in advance of the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children.

However, this visit has not been received without controversy. Some Royal insider's view the tour as a deviation from traditional royal engagements, which are typically aligned with British interests and conducted under strict protocols.

A former palace aide expressed to The Royal Observer the concerns that the Sussexes’ actions reflect a disregard for royal norms and a potential challenge to the monarchy’s established order.

"The tour might be well-intentioned," the former aide commented, "but it diverges from the conventional royal engagement model and reinforces why there’s been a push to distance them from official royal activities."

Despite these critiques, the Colombian government has extended full support and security for the Sussexes, framing their visit as a significant cultural and diplomatic event.

The trip, with its focus on global issues and engagement with local leaders, represents a departure from traditional royal tours, emphasizing the evolving role of the Sussexes in global advocacy.
