Western Penitentiary to be demolished after feasibility study
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The former State Correctional Institution at Pittsburgh, known as the Western Penitentiary, is set to be demolished. It was last used as a prison in 2017. The state did a feasibility study last year that recommended bringing the facility down. This came after speaking with several groups, including neighbors. Tornadoes strike the Pittsburgh area
PITTSBURGH (WKBN) — Another round of severe thunderstorms impacted the Midwest and northeastern United States on Wednesday. This time, the strongest thunderstorms impacted the Pittsburgh area. Damaging wind gusts and multiple tornadoes moved through western Pennsylvania Wednesday evening resulting in downed trees and damage to homes and powerlines. The map below shows all of the wind damage and tornado reports from Wednesday.
Update: Tornado warning for Allegheny County Wednesday evening
An updated tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 7:42 p.m. in effect until 8 p.m. for Allegheny County. “At 7:42 p.m., severe thunderstorms capable of producing both tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage were located over Carnegie, or near Mount Lebanon, moving east at 40 mph,” says the weather service. “Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.”

New legislation proposes ticketing for trash pickup violations in Pittsburgh
