P.F. Chang's restaurant at Hackensack mall closed by city's fire department. What we know
The P.F. Chang's China Bistro restaurant at the Shops at Riverside Mall has been shut down by the Hackensack Fire Department. The "Order to Vacate" notice posted on the restaurant door is dated July 2 and states: "The building is declared unsafe for human occupancy. No individual is to occupy this building until the structure is rendered safe and secure."

Bergen County Zoo announces extended summer hours, ticket prices
Late summer hours at the Bergen County Zoological Park, with the Paramus zoo open every Wednesday for those wanting to beat the heat and visit later in the day. Throughout July and August, the site at Van Saun County Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the last entry allowed at 6:30 p.m. The train and carousel will also be open for extended hours, with last rides at 6:45 p.m.

Jersey City street remains closed from damage caused by train striking bridge
A portion of a busy Jersey City street will remain closed for repair work after a freight train struck an overpass last week. Work is being performed in the area of the Baldwin Avenue bridge over rail tracks to build a “bypass” for a 20-inch water main, causing the closure of the street from Magnolia Avenue to High Street.

Labor dispute leads to retaliation lawsuit filed by firefighter in Bergen County
An Englewood firefighter is claiming the city and members of the administration retaliated against him after he spoke before the council about union contract negotiations. John Escobar is a firefighter with the city and president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 3263. The lawsuit, filed on June 28 in Bergen County Superior Court, said the firefighters union and the city have been in contract negotiations "for years." According to the lawsuit, the collective bargaining agreement expired four years ago and they haven't been able to reach a new contract.

North Jersey faces poor air quality and an impending heat advisory Friday morning
After a night of Independence Day celebrations, some parts of North Jersey were dealing with poor or even unhealthy air quality levels Friday morning. As of 10 a.m. Friday morning, parts of Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Morris counties were labeled either unhealthy or unhealthy for sensitive groups, per the Air Quality Index (AQI). By 11:30 a.m., most of the region was back down to a moderate AQI.
