The Lakewood Bachur who was struck by a vehicle and critically injured Erev Shvuos returned home last night, and was greeted in Shul with singing and dancing. The accident happened Erev Yom Tov in the raintree neighborhood.
Council approves cut-it-and-leave-it policy
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Beach mayor and council approved a resolution supporting a cut-it-and-leave-it environmental policy in the borough, where homeowners are being encouraged to leave grass clippings on their lawns after mowing. This statewide initiative is intended to both save homeowners money on municipal waste pickup as well as divert the clippings away from solid waste streams, according to a press release about the resolution from the Point Pleasant Beach Environmental Commission.
SummerFest rocks stage for three weeks
BRICK TOWNSHIP — SummerFest brought live music to Windward Beach Park for three consecutive weeks, seeing Super Trans Am, Garden State Radio and Aftershock taking the stage for thousands of Brick residents and giving them a night to remember. Super Trans Am took the stage on July 4, July 11 saw Garden State Radio take the stage and July 18 saw Aftershock take the stage.
New shellfish nursery set up in Normandy Beach
BRICK TOWNSHIP — A new upweller location for ReClam the Bay opened up recently at the Normandy Beach Improvement Association, 541 Broad Ave., and will have a crew of volunteers there every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. An upweller is a shellfish nursery, and is a 4 feet by 10 feet tank that contains 10 or 12 siloes with mesh bottoms where the baby shellfish are placed.
Point Elks host John Veprek Memorial Fluke Tournament
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament was run on Saturday, calling on hundreds of anglers to try their rods and reels at nabbing the heaviest fluke they could find in the Jersey Shore’s waters. While this is the second annual tournament memorializing John Veprek, it is the 29th annual fluke (summer flounder) fishing tournament held by the Point Pleasant Elks, based out of Lodge 1698.
