Prosecutors in Ellis County have finally closed the books on a 12-year-old murder case.

Police found the body of 15-year-old Moriah Gonzalez of Ennis along a rural road in 2012. She had been stabbed to death and her body had been set on fire.

Now 30-year-old Jennifer Puente of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Prosecutor James Zelta says Puente had fled to Mexico immediately after the murder. It wasn't until a year and a half ago that she was found, arrested and extradited. The motive for the murder was never determined.
