This Washington Fire Year Really Isn’t Easy!
Current Situation: The Easy Fire is burning through dense timber, dead trees, and ground vegetation on very steep terrain. Activity near State Route 20 has moderated, but there is still fire within the north and south sides of the perimeter. Firefighters, in collaboration with the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), have been clearing debris and fallen trees from the highway. The closure status of the highway is being frequently reassessed, so check the WSDOT travel map for updates.

The new map gives real-time updates on air quality across the state, showing pollutants like smoke, ozone, and carbon monoxide . The map has accessibility features aimed at making it more user-friendly for those who are visually impaired, and can be accessed via smartphone or desktop. Haaland Announces $16M for Drought Resilience During Washington State Visit
TOPPENISH, WA – Secretary Haaland concluded a multi-day visit to Washington State to celebrate major progress in implementing President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to safeguard communities from increased threat of wildland fire and severe drought, restore ecosystems, and strengthen tribal communities. During her visit, Secretary Haaland met with tribal leaders from the Confederated Tribes of the Yakama Nation, Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Puyallup Tribe, as well as Bureau of Indian Education-funded staff and personnel. On the heels of the devastating 1980 Slide Ranch Fire in late June, Secretary Haaland also met with more than 50 Yakama Nation firefighters to express the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to sharing resources, investing in resilience efforts, and prioritizing permanent pay reforms and increases for tribal firefighters.
