Another year of growth for Saint’s Place
Saint’s Place helped 198 refugees in May—its busiest month ever. The fiscal year is shaping up to be the most successful year yet, with over 1,500 new refugees assisted. The Pittsford-based nonprofit also helped set up 285 homes and bedding for 1,100 new beds with pillows, blankets, two sets of sheets and a comforter. It has also distributed more than 450 backpacks to children of refugees this year, another milestone.
Downed trees, power lines, and property damage reported after severe storms hit Livingston and Ontario counties
CALEDONIA, N.Y. — Neighbors in Caledonia and Farmington say severe storms brought downed trees, powerlines, and damage to their property on Monday afternoon. “We got the alert on our phones, tornado in the area, we turned on Channel 10 and listened to Stacey and she said at 4:15 this place is going to be rocking, at 4:15 this place was rocking,” Michael Pullybank said.
Drinking water available for residents without power
(WENY) -- With over 10,000 people in Chemung County alone without power, a number of fresh water stations have been set up on Tuesday, July 16th to help people get by. Chemung County Emergency Management has set up water distribution site in Elmira at the Southport Volunteer Fire Department located at 1001 Carl St. and the East Water Street and Dewitt Ave. Parking Lot located next to the Clarion Inn.

Elmira man arrested after barricading himself in apartment
George Wilson, who allegedly fell out of an attic in an Elmira apartment, is now in jail after barricading himself inside and refusing to come out. According to Elmira Police, Wilson fell from the attic of an apartment on West First Street. The tenant informed police that Wilson was still inside the apartment.

Recent Cyber Attacks Threaten Hudson Valley, New York Infrastructure
The Hudson Valley has fallen victim to a slew of cyber attacks in recent months, compromising important information from both local organizations and individuals. Cyberattack complaints in New York state increased 53% between 2016 and 2022, jumping from 16,426 incidents in 2016 to 25,112 in 2022, according to the FBI. The number of attacks targeting critical infrastructure in New York state nearly doubled to 83 in the first half of 2023 compared to 48 during the entirety of 2022 according to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
