Lucky Israeli-Flagged Desserts at Sycuan Slots Tournament
SAN DIEGO – This past weekend I stayed at Sycuan Casino Resort on a reservation owned by one branch of the Kumeyaay people. My favorite slot machine is in the non-smoking section. It is named Aztec Temple and is a “penny slot.” I like this machine since I am a graduate of San Diego State University, whose team nicknames are the Aztecs, and I always get more than I put in (fingers crossed I don’t jinx myself for next time).
Two-Night ‘Henry 6’: An Enjoyable Time- and Gender-Bending Spectacle
SAN DIEGO — Play. Production. Spectacle. Event. None of these words adequately describe The Old Globe’s current show Henry 6 for it is all of these things. A first for me, the play is presented in two-parts, over two-days. Each play is about 2.5 hours including intermission. But...
White Sox's trade deadline tactics are making Garrett Crochet to Padres unattainable
Perhaps the worst kept secret at this year's MLB trade deadline is the infatuation that the San Diego Padres' front office has with Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet. It feels like all Pads fans have heard for the past month is how much president of baseball operations AJ Preller loves the idea of adding Crochet to the Friars' rotation.

Dazzling Perseid Meteor Shower is here. How to watch in California
Now through Sept. 1, specs of dust and rocks will streak across the California night sky as they smack into Earth’s atmosphere when the Perseid Meteor Shower, the most dazzling annual meteor shower seen from Earth, returns to a night sky near you this summer. That comet last visited Earth in 1995. It orbits the sun every 133 years, so it will be about a century before Swift-Tuttle swings around again. But it left us a gift in...
Scientists use AI to predict a wildfire's next move
Researchers at USC have developed a new method to accurately predict wildfire spread. By combining satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, their model offers a potential breakthrough in wildfire management and emergency response. Detailed in an early study proof published in Artificial Intelligence for the Earth Systems, the USC model uses...
