Youngsters discover dinosaur tracks at Riker Hill Park
ROSELAND - Young children and their families had the chance to see real dinosaur tracks during one of the Essex County Environmental Center's programs on Tuesday, June 18. The group, led by senior naturalist David Alexander, met at the end of Locust Avenue in Roseland and hiked one mile within Riker Hill Art Park, which winds its way into Livingston, to explore a local National Historic Landmark home to three-toed Grallator tracks from the late Triassic period.

N.J. Public Defender names first-ever police accountability director
A veteran public defender will lead a new effort to track police and prosecutorial misconduct in cases handled by the office, Public Defender Jennifer Sellitti announced. Danica Rue started with the Office of the Public Defender in 2010, in Essex County. Her new title is Director of Investigations and Police Accountability and she’ll report directly to Sellitti.
Update: Air quality alert in effect for 5 N.J. counties until Sunday night
An updated air quality alert was issued in effect until 11 p.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties. "The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Bergen, Passaic, Hudson, Essex, and Union, Until 11 p.m. this evening. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards," says the National Weather Service.

After a night of Independence Day celebrations, some parts of North Jersey were dealing with poor or even unhealthy air quality levels Friday morning. As of 10 a.m. Friday morning, parts of Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Morris counties were labeled either unhealthy or unhealthy for sensitive groups, per the Air Quality Index (AQI).
