When we tell outsiders where we’re from, we all get the eye roll. We’ve all heard the Jersey dis about smokestacks, pollution, litter, and grime. No one ever thinks of farmland, the gorgeous lakes and mountains, the Jersey shore, the hiking trails, the nature. All we ever hear about is the dirty reputation, which just isn’t warranted or fair.
N.J. mayor who made racist remarks caught using a slur, again
Clark Mayor Sal Bonaccorso is not apologizing for calling a political rival a slur for people with intellectual disabilities during last month’s council meeting. Bonaccorso made the derogatory remark during the township’s June 20 meeting after a Democratic candidate for council addressed the all-Republican board during its public comment portion, according to a recording on Clark’s YouTube channel.

An ultramarathoner is on the brink of an epic running feat in Essex County. Chris Jaworski of Bloomfield said he has run every street in all but one of Essex County’s 22 municipalities and is currently making his way through Irvington, where he grew up and attended high school.
Bergen County gas station attendant charged, accused of overcharging customers
A Park Ridge gas station attendant at Delta Gas was charged and accused of repeatedly overcharging customers, police said on Tuesday. Police alleged the unidentified attendant at the Kinderkamack Road Delta would manually charge more money when customers would use credit cards. When called out on the discrepancy by drivers, the attendant pretended it was a mistake and gave back the money, police said.

Labor dispute leads to retaliation lawsuit filed by firefighter in Bergen County
An Englewood firefighter is claiming the city and members of the administration retaliated against him after he spoke before the council about union contract negotiations. John Escobar is a firefighter with the city and president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 3263. The lawsuit, filed on June 28 in Bergen County Superior Court, said the firefighters union and the city have been in contract negotiations "for years." According to the lawsuit, the collective bargaining agreement expired four years ago and they haven't been able to reach a new contract.

Jersey City to host July 4 concert, Hudson River fireworks viewing
Jersey City is planning a Fourth of July festival and concert on Thursday ahead of the fireworks display on the Hudson River. Fat Joe, Wyclef Jean and Funk Flex will headline the concert, which starts at 1 p.m. and continues with the headliners starting at 6:10 p.m., according to an announcement made on Monday. A street festival will kick off the festivities at noon with more than 80 local artisans and food vendors.

Cleaning effort in Paterson, NJ looks to spruce up commercial spaces
PATERSON - Mayor Andre Sayegh has been looking for a tool to spruce up city streets, and he tells New Jersey 101.5 the "Paterson is Picking Up" initiative is the answer. A cleaning crew is part of the ongoing effort to pick up trash along the six wards' commercial spaces; solar-powered trash receptacles have also been installed that alert the Department of Public Works when full.
