Oregon Ducks fans were treated to a memorable, albeit disappointing season in 2023 after they fell short to their conference rival Washington Huskies in the Pac-12 Championship Game. For those that haven't been paying much attention, the stars on offense will essentially all be newcomers when the Ducks take the field this fall, and there's plenty to be excited about.

After sending wide receiver Troy Franklin to the NFL , along with quarterback Bo Nix, Dan Lanning and the Ducks went out and addressed their key positions in the transfer portal by bringing in Dillon Gabriel to throw the rock, and Evan Stewart to catch it.

Let's get to know Stewart and what to expect from one of the top Ducks breakout candidates in 2024.

Evan Stewart is the new Ducks No. 1 wide receiver

Stewart is one of the most talented wide receivers in the country, and has potential to be a big name in the 2025 NFL Draft. Opting to enter the transfer portal this last offseason, he was the crown jewel of the available wide receivers, and Oregon jumped at the opportunity.

A proven collegiate wide receiver with 1,163 receiving yards and six touchdowns to his name in his first two seasons down in College Station, Stewart was a composite 5-star plus recruit, meaning he was unanimously ranked as a 5-star player by the major recruiting services.

Stewart is an absolute burner. He possesses incredible twitch and change of direction ability to pair with his 4.3 speed and elite hands. He can obliterate a defender's cushion, can turn any catch into a touchdown, and will absolutely eat in Oregon's high-flying system.

“I think speed, catch radius. I think there’s a lot of things that pop off with Evan,” Lanning said after spring practices. “I think he saw a lot of opportunity here with what we’ve done with our wideouts here in the past over the last few years."

“But you know, he has the skill set to be really, really talented player. We had some coaches that were really familiar with them before as well. That’s certainly paid off.”

Watch out. Stewart is exactly what Oregon needed as they head to the B1G, and has elite breakout potential in 2024.

Stewart joins Tez Johnson in the Ducks passing attack

While Stewart has the potential to be the Ducks new top wide receiver, Tez Johnson is already on the roster and is coming off a terrific 2023 season.

Johnson is a slot guy. He lined up in the slot on 79% of his offensive snaps last year, and wreaked havoc on opposing defenses while Franklin was on the outside. His 86 receptions for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns last year all has him up on the Ducks single-season leader boards. His 86 receptions is the most in a season ever, his 1,182 yards ranks third, and his 10 touchdowns ties for fourth.

He'll continue to eat out of the slot, with Stewart's speed forcing defenses to account for him over the top. The Ducks are gearing up for 2024 with one of the best wide receiver rooms in the country.
