Dan Lanning Reacts to Kirk Herbstreit's 'Oregon Winning it All' Take

Kirk Herbstreit made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday to talk about the upcoming college football season. The popular sports analyst turned heads during his visit with McAfee's program after he hinted at the idea of the Ducks winning the National Championship.
While discussing the Big Ten with Pat McAfee and company, Kirk Herbstreit mentioned that he "may have Oregon winning it all." Everyone on The Pat McAfee show went wild with McAfee even yelling "Breaking! That's a big deal!" However, Herbstreit made it very clear that he said "may," as it's not his exact prediction.
"Look out for old Oregon. Look out for the old Oregon Ducks. I may have Oregon winning it all."
So, perhaps Kirk Herbstreit does believe the Ducks have what it takes to finally win a National Championship. On Thursday, head coach Dan Lanning visited The Pat McAfee Show studio and reacted to Herbstreit's take.
Lanning jabbed Herbstreit for "back tracking." But McAfee ensured that Herbstreit did say "may" originally. It was a funny moment but the Oregon head coach took the opportunity to exude confidence in his team ahead of the 2024 season.
"Yeah I really like our team this year. Every year is a new year. This is certainly the most talented team we've had since I've been there."
The Oregon Ducks are certainly in place to make some noise in the Big Ten this season. Many believe they're a near guarantee to make the College Football Playoffs. If that's the case then Oregon should be one of the best teams in the nation moving forward.
Dan Lanning has done a magnificent job with recruiting while also finding talent in the transfer portal. The NIL has helped Oregon a ton as Nike founder, Phil Knight, has stepped up with helping in that area. Overall, this is a program that should remain at the top of the college football world for years to come.
We'll see how the season plays out but the Ducks have favorable schedule for their first year in the Big Ten. There aren't many games that are considered easy. However, they do face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Oct. 12. That will be one to watch, as that very well could be the Big Ten Championship game as well.
Look for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks to be a problem this year. With new quarterback Dillon Gabriel under center, this team could go the distance in the new 12-team College Football Playoff format.
