Tennessee Vols poised to give Oregon HC Dan Lanning his second offseason loss to the SEC this week

Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has built a powerhouse in Eugene, but that doesn't mean he's immune to offseason losses to the SEC.

Lanning's program suffered a tough recruiting loss earlier this week when they lost four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma to the Texas Longhorns.

Sharma, 6-foot-5/325 lbs from Folsom, CA, committed to Oregon in late June, but he flipped his commitment on Thursday, choosing Austin over Eugene.

Lanning could suffer another recruiting loss to the SEC by the end of the weekend thanks to the Tennessee Vols.

2025 four-star tight end Da'Saahn Brame, an Oregon commit who is rated as the No. 4 tight end in the nation, is visiting Tennessee this weekend. And the feeling is that he'll flip his commitment from Oregon to Tennessee by the time he leaves Knoxville.

"When Dasaahn Brame committed to Oregon late in June, the Ducks made a move late in the process to swing the momentum away from the Vols," noted On3's Chad Simmons on Friday . "Tennessee never went away, and with Brame visiting Knoxville this weekend, that is a great sign for the SEC program...Brame is on flip watch this weekend."

Lanning has proved that he's an elite recruiter and an above average head coach. But the SEC is still the king of college football. And ultimately, most of the best players in the nation seem to prefer heading down south to play college football.
