Ahead of the Oregon Ducks’ first year as members of the Big Ten conference, Ducks starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel revealed rather unfortunate news on Sunday about the passing of his 6-month-old puppy.

The miniature schnauzer puppy named Winston by Gabriel and his girlfriend, Zo Caswell, was recently euthanized due to stomach issues.

In order to take their minds off the tragic loss of their furry friend, the couple played table tennis with Caswell uploading a video with the caption “How to overcome the death of your puppy: distract yourself.”

Gabriel and Zo announced the news on their Instagram accompanied by a heartfelt message.

Gabriel was recently asked about Winston's passing after a Ducks' off-season practice on Monday where he gave some perspective on how he is dealing with the emotional loss.

"You just go through life and you learn a lot. Like I said, it's just perspective. You just got to gain it. And, you know, trust, you know, God's plan, you know, I think I've always tried to live a life of hoping that I'd just be on that course."

Gabriel enters the 2024 college football season with Oregon after transferring from the Oklahoma Sooners, where he spent the previous two seasons. Gabriel originally spent three seasons at UCF from 2019 to 2021 before transferring to the Sooners following the 2021 season.

The couple adopted the puppy in April and even joked on social media about whether it could play wide receiver, tight end, or running back for the Ducks this season.

Throughout Gabriel's career, he has amassed an astounding 14,865 passing yards and 125 touchdowns through 1,050 completions.

With Gabriel under center alongside wide receivers Tez Johnson, Evan Stewart, and Traeshon Holden, the high-powered Ducks offense could be one of the nation's most high-octane forces come this fall.

Gabriel's first game as a Duck will be when Oregon plays host to the Idaho Vandals from Autzen Stadium on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. (ET), which will air on the Big Ten Network.
