Morris Graves Museum Announces Exhibits Open During Arts Alive Events for July
Those Who Taught: Selected Works by Former Humboldt State Faculty from the HAC Permanent Collection. Works of art by Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) visual arts faculty have long been a part of campus and community life. Those Who Taught highlights a selection of paintings, sculpture, photographs and prints by former HSU faculty members who were dedicated teachers and makers of art for many decades. Well before the founding of the MGMA in 2000, many of these artists showed their work on campus, served on college committees, received teaching awards, and laid the groundwork for the University’s support of the arts. Those who paved the way include Maris Benson, Glenn Berry, Reese Bullen, Max Butler, Tom Knight, Mimi La Plant, David LaPlantz, Ellen Landweber, Louis Marak, Leslie Kenneth Price, Keith Schneider, Melvin Schuler, and William Thonson.

‘Midsummer Art Idea: Hike to Trinidad Head Light, Sketching Along the Way’ on July 12th
A sketch-along-the-way hike to the original 1871 Trinidad Head Lighthouse is the latest in a collection of outdoor art workshops aptly named Hike & Sketch Tours. Led by local artist Margaret Kellermann, this tour happens Friday, July 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In its third hour, participants debrief at a café. Though Kellermann also offers customizable tours herself, this particular midsummer workshop is offered through OLLI, an extended education program of Cal Poly Humboldt. Anyone can take individual OLLI workshops or become members.
