    Search for missing swimmer at Evanston beach resumes

    EVANSTON, Ill. — An Evanston beach remains closed Monday as the search continues for a man went missing while swimming on Sunday afternoon.

    According to officials from the Evanston Fire Department, crews were called to Lighthouse Beach around 4 p.m. after a group of swimmers began struggling in the water.

    Officials say one adult woman, two teenage girls and a 41 -year-old man were in the water when they began to struggle. A community member who was at the beach rescued the woman and the two girls, but the man remains missing.

    Crews conducted an extensive search, utilizing helicopters, drones and sonar technology, but were unable to locate the man.

    The search was eventually called off around 7:45 p.m. and crews said they would resume the search on Monday morning.

    According to officials, the beach was under a red flag alert on Sunday, meaning swimming was not permitted and no lifeguards were on duty.

    Because of the search, crews asked the public to avoid the area.
