EVSC board of trustees taps Joshua Barnett to fill District 3 vacancy left by Amy Word

EVANSVILLE — School board members voted Monday evening to fill the District 3 vacancy left by former board member Amy Word.

Word, former owner of Lamasco Bar and Grill, was found guilty in July of maintaining a common nuisance after a three-day trial in Sullivan, Indiana. Since she was convicted of a felony, Word was no longer eligible to serve as a school board member.

She had already announced she would not run for reelection.

The trustees selected Joshua Barnett, a school board candidate for the November election, to fill the vacancy in a 3-1 vote.

Karen Ragland, Mike Duckworth and Chris Kiefer voted in favor of Barnett. Melissa Moore voted to appoint Amy Devries, who is currently running for the seat in the upcoming election.

Terry Gamblin and David Hollingsworth abstained from the vote.

District 3 is represented by two elected officials. This year voters will choose between Gamblin, Devries and Barnett.
