EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The University of Evansville will soon make way for a gathering space on campus in what’s called the “Legacy Project.”

In just a few weeks, construction crews will demolish five university-owned homes on Frederick Street and build an outdoor patio, two sand volleyball courts, a basketball court and some hammocks

“It’s just another place on campus where students can congregate, come together and really kind of live out the university’s mission of being able to living meaningfully in a changing world,” UE Chief Communications Officer Noah Alatza says. “We feel like it’s just so important that we have the appropriate amenities to continue to set the bar high.”

UE’s Student Government Association is funding the area.

The university hopes to open it by October.
