EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -The Indiana Department of Transportation is working on several projects in the tristate.

People have seen lots of construction lately, especially on the way to the Vanderburgh County Fair and near the Lloyd Expressway.

The Vanderburgh County Fair has experienced this trouble first-hand.

INDOT has closed the median on Hwy 41 allowing Northbound traffic to enter through the back entrance of the fair.

The change is causing back-ups at other fair entrances.

Lee Slater, the President of the Vanderburgh County Fair says, “There is no access from the if you’re driving north he will not be able to access gate three due to some barricades gate three is accessible if you’re heading south on Highway 41 or recommendation is going up a little further north to the light at Boonville new Harmony, our main two gates are just to the left.’

INDOT says its installing a reduce conflict intersection at Hillsdale Road and Hwy 41.

Barricades are in place, closing the crossover.

The extensive construction is going to completely change how this intersection operates.

Gary Brian, the Public Relations of INDOT Southwest says, “It will no longer be just a straight crossover. It’ll be folks who were trying to go basically you’ll turn right and then you’ll turn left utilizing the median U-turn so yeah that’s part of the project there we understand that this is a pretty busy area right now with the fair so we know, ask people to give extra time if they’re heading that direction.”

Further south, projects near the Lloyd Expressway are also causing slower traffic.

Cars are forced into one lane while construction is taking place near Morgan Street.

INDOT says all of these projects are necessary despite how frustrating it can be.

Brian says, “Our workers live in Evansville we drive through the same construction sites. We understand we get it and we try to do this as sort as sort out as possible, but unfortunately, you know, mother, nature and roads you know they don’t really care about us right.”

INDOT is asking for patience at this time as many projects are underway and will last for a while.
