    Injuries reported after deck collapses in Jefferson County

    DENVER ( KDVR ) — A second-story deck with a handful of people on it collapsed Saturday afternoon during a children’s birthday party, according to the Elk Creek Fire Protection District.

    The collapse happened during a children’s birthday party at a home off of Armadillo Trail in Evergreen.

    Both adults and children were present at the party. Initially, reports said 50 people were on the deck at the time of the collapse, however, the Elk Creek Fire Protection District said sources close to the family confirmed only a handful of people were on the deck when it collapsed. There were 40-50 people at the party at one point.

    According to ECFPD, there were mostly just bumps and bruises from the collapse.

    Three children were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for minor injuries, while other kids were taken by parents precautionarily.

    However, there were no severe injuries.

    The cause of the collapse was unknown.
