Scotty McCreery Joins Callista Clark on New Song, ‘Gettin’ Old’

Scotty McCreery is lending his talents to another artist. The Grand Ole Opry member joins rising star Callista Clark on a new song, “Gettin’ Old,” out on August 9. The song is from her forthcoming new project, which will be released this fall.

Clark has been teasing the song on her social media channels, before revealing that she was singing the heartbreak tune with McCreery.

“You all know that I have been keeping a very big secret, and the secret is that I have a duet partner, and that duet partner is …” Clark said, as McCreery appeared on the screen beside her.

“I am so fired up to be on this song. Callista wrote a heck of a tune, and I am honored to sing on it with her,” McCreery praised.

Clark and McCreery have more in common than just both being great country music singers. Clark just announced her engagement to Season 16 American Idol finalist, Garrett Jacobs, which McCreery won six seasons prior, in Season 10. Jacobs was part of the same season as Gabby Barrett and her husband, Cade Foehner.

McCreery’s latest song, “Fall of Summer,” his second single from Rise and Fall, is at radio now. The song follows “Cab In A Solo,” as his debut single from his new album, which landed at the top of the charts, and became his sixth No. 1 hit.

“I’m so proud of the whole record, but this song kind of has that nostalgic feel to it. To me, I love that about music,” McCreery tells ABC Audio. “I love when a song can take you back to a memory, take you back to a place, and to me ‘Fall of Summer’ does that.”

“Hopefully folks get that vibe as well,” he adds.

McCreery broke his own mold a bit in the creation of Rise and Fall. While there are still plenty of songs inspired by his own life, such as “Love Like This,” “Slow Dance” and more, the 30-year-old also included songs that are great stories, but not necessarily personal to him.

“There’s plenty of songs in this record that are me playing the character for the first time,” McCreery tells American Songwriter. “Some of my favorite songs in country music are the heartbreak songs. I hadn’t really had those in my catalog. And, I wanted to write some of those too.”

McCreery has had a lot of highs and lows in his career, which is what inspired the title of his latest album, but he has never been more excited about his future in country music than he is now.

“I feel much more like an old man than I do that kid nowadays,” McCreery says. “I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, and I didn’t know what the world had in store for me. At this point in my career, I’ve seen just about everything. You can easily get jaded, but for me, it’s like, ‘Now, I know what to expect.’ And it still excites me.”
