Lainey Wilson has a new song out from her upcoming Whirlwind album, and it features a fellow country music superstar. The Louisiana native just dropped “Good Horses,” which is a collaboration with her friend and mentor, Miranda Lambert. Wilson and Lambert co-wrote the song together with Luke Dick.

“I am so excited for everyone to finally be able to have their hands on this song,” Wilson says. “Writing with Miranda and Luke feels like home, and I will forever cherish the day we wrote this song. ‘Good Horses’ is all about finding your way back home, no matter where you are.”

“’Good Horses’ is about all the people that love the comfort of home, but also need to be free,” adds Lambert. “Lainey and I wrote this song at my farm with Luke Dick. Lainey is a genuine and authentic human. I love watching her dreams come true right in front of our eyes, and it’s so cool to be a little part of it.”

“Good Horses” is part of a project that Wilson is proud to have created, two years after the release of her sophomore Bell Bottom Country record, out in 2022.

This album has been a long time coming, and I can’t wait for the world to have this body of work in their hands soon,” Wilson said when Whirlwind was announced. “This new chapter of music is the most cathartic and personal piece of art I’ve ever made. I hope this record brings some peace to your whirlwind and wraps its arms around you like it did for me.”

Much has happened for Wilson since Bell Bottom Country was released. The Louisiana native had seven consecutive No. 1 singles, won numerous trophies, including both the ACM Award and CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year, celebrated sold-out concerts, opened her Bell Bottoms Up bar in Nashville, and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

“It’s hard to wrap your head around it,” Wilson said when she was inducted. “My family is here tonight … I have the whole town of Baskin and Franklin Parish here. The people who supported me before I found the support here in Nashville. It just feels like a big, full-circle moment for me. From a very early age, I wanted to play here. I wanted to come here, then I wanted to play here, then I wanted to be a member.

“And it feels like I’ve taken a million steps to get here, but it also feels like one big giant leap, and I think the leap is really just a leap of faith, so I’m very excited and honored,” she added.

Wilson has a Top 15 single right now with “Hang Tight Honey,” the debut single from Whirlwind.

“Jason Nix sent me what he, Driver Williams and Paul Sikes started together, to see if it was something that I was interested in finishing, and it was an immediate ‘Heck yeah,’ from me,” Wilson recalled to iHeartCountry. “They had started it with me and my story in mind, and I felt like it was coming from an interesting angle that I haven’t heard in a while, or really at all.

“‘Hang tight’ is something that my folks have always said to me growing up,” she added. “So whether that meant hang tight while sitting on the back of a truck, or hang tight on the back of a horse, those words, they made me feel at home.”

Whirlwind will be out on August 23. Find all of Wilson’s music and upcoming shows at LaineyWilson.com.
