EVESHAM, NJ – The Mexican restaurant chain Plaza Azteca will apparently take over the site most recently occupied by Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant along Route 73 South in Evesham.
When a TAPinto Mount Laurel reporter drove by the site on the morning of July 23, a banner with Plaza Azteca’s name and logo indicating the company was hiring was visible. The reporter also noticed several work trucks parked at the site and a ladder leaning against the building.
Representatives from Plaza Azteca did not immediately respond to the reporter’s request for comment regarding the restaurant’s opening date and the number of jobs that would be available there. However, a check of Plaza Azteca’s website on July 23 confirmed the company is hiring for the Evesham location and other upcoming locations in Voorhees, and East Windwos. The restaurant’s website also indicated that the three restaurants are “coming soon.”
Billing itself as "The Shortcut to Mexico", Plaza Azteca currently has a location in Sicklerville, according to the chain's website . It also has restaurants in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusets, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
Representatives from Soloff Realty & Development, the company name on a sign adjacent to the site indicating the building was available, also did not respond to the reporter’s request for comment.
Past news reports indicate Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant closed the Route 73 location in December 2022 and another nearby location on Nixon Drive in Mount Laurel in June 2023. The restaurant’s website indicates all other New Jersey locations are also closed.
