Six Flags Over Georgia announces new chaperone policy
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Six Flags Over Georgia & Hurricane Harbor have announced a new chaperone policy for its younger guests. Guests ages 15 years of age or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to be admitted to or remain in the park after 4 p.m. daily. The park says that it is also reserving the right to enforce the rule earlier in the day if needed.
'Our studio is toast': County Headquarters Suffers Water Damage
MARIETTA — A pipe's failure over the weekend led to extensive water damage in the county's headquarters, including the jeopardization of over $400,000 in new equipment purchased for the county's communications department. Cobb County Water System Reports 300 Gallon Sewage Overflow
The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 300 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on July 22. The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 229 Wynona Drive in Marietta and discharged into a tributary to Nickajack Creek. The Water System was notified of the overflow on July 22 at 8:10 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on July 22 at 9 a.m. Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with the lid secured. The escaping sewage left a 30-foot by 20-foot gray area entering the tributary. After using a jet machine to unstop the sewer line, the crew spread potpourri and lime on the affected area. County Eyes Civic Center Repairs After Wreck
MARIETTA — The Cobb Board of Commissioners is considering bankrolling over $116,000 in repairs to the Civic Center after a driver crashed into the building's entrance last month. The back-to-school dates vary across the region, with many districts welcoming students back in early August. For instance, Atlanta Public Schools, Barrow County Schools, and Clayton County Schools will all begin their academic year on Aug. 1. Other districts like Carrollton City Schools and Pike County Schools have set their start dates later, on Aug. 12. However, there are a few that go back the last week in July.
