    Two North Bay cities have worst commute in US: study

    ( KRON ) — Have you ever thought the state of California was the most tedious to drive? Well, a MoneyGeek study said two North Bay cities are the absolute worst cities to commute, along with other various California regions.

    According to the study, Vallejo and Fairfield, California residents have the worst commutes of any U.S. metro area.

    MoneyGeek says Vallejo/Fairfield drivers spend an average of 34 minutes commuting, typically driving 28 miles per hour. The factor that makes the North Bay cities the worst for commute is the price of gas. The study says Vallejoans and Fairfield residents spend around $1,792 annually for gas. Stockton commuters are expected to only spend a dollar under annually, which is why the city is in the second slot.

    A total of six California metro areas made the worst commute list: Vallejo-Fairfield, Stockton-Lodi, Modesto, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim area, and another Bay Area region– San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara area.

    The San Jose metro came in sixth place for the worst cities to commute. Drivers are expected to spend 28 minutes commuting and spend an average of $1,367 yearly for gas.

    Methodology

    MoneyGeek utilized the U.S. Census, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and other data to analyze the 124  largest U.S. metro areas. The determining factors for the list are the average commute time for a one-way commute, average driving speed during rush hour, risk of being in a fatal car crash during a morning commute and annual gas cost in dollars for each metro.
