Linda Grant received the 2023 Legacy Award for Fairfield.

“I started to think about what the Legacy Award means to me after I received it. To me, it is what people remember me for. It’s about how I have helped them in life,” Grant said. “The most important things in life are faith in God, love for family and God, and helping others when you can. Being the County Judge has put me in contact with many people over the years that I have hopefully been able to help.”

Grant recalls the Greatest Commandment of loving one another as her daily walk in life.

Grant was born and raised in Waco. She graduated from La Vega High School before attending Baylor University where she earned a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting in 1972.

She has lived in the area (Buffalo/Fairfield) for the past 50 years.

She moved to Fairfield in 1984.

At the age of 47, when her youngest child went to college, Grant decided it was time for her to go back to college as well.

She attended Law School at Baylor University and graduated in 1997.

“All of my classmates were my childrens’ age, so I felt right at home,” Grant said.

Grant became the Freestone County Judge on January 1, 1999. She is currently serving her 26th year as the County Judge.

Linda is married to Glynn Harris who was born and raised in Fairfield. Linda has three children, Tracy, James, and Jami, who all graduated from Fairfield High School.

Tracy passed away at the age of 19 from cancer. James, who is an auctioneer/ rancher, is married to Averie. They own The Venue at G Bar Ranch as well. They have two children, Alli Dean and Cori. Jami is married to Brett Lowry and they have four children, Cort, Traci Claire, Brooke, and Luke. They also have two grandchildren, Rhett and Landon. Glynn has two children as well, Tammy Harris and Tracie Ezell.

“My mom means the world to me. She is the most selfless mom a man could ever ask for. She endured many struggles as a young person, but she has developed the most extreme work ethos and determination of anyone I know. She rose to be one of the most successful ladies I have ever met. Through good and bad times, she remained strong, humble, supportive and kind,” James said. “As a parent she has set the bar extremely high to the point of almost unobtainable measure. She has taught me how to truly love my wife, my children, myself and others. She also taught me that nothing in this world is free, you must put in the work in order to see the reward. I could go on for days about all the things that I have learned, but the most important is that she taught me to love God, my family and to treat others the way I would want to be treated.”

Grant is a member at Caney Baptist Church. She is also a member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce.

“Freestone County has so many wonderful people. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful to others,” Grant said. “I’m so thankful to call Freestone County my home.”

Grant loves spending her time watching her grandchildren compete in sporting events and rodeos.

“I am so blessed to live in Freestone County. There are lots of good people here. We are very fortunate to live where we live,” Grant said. “The world we live in is crazy these days. However, God is in control. We have to rely on that. That will get us through each day.”
