Wortham ISD announced on Friday, March 8, that it would be closed on Monday, April 8, as a precautionary measure due to the expected sightseers in the area to watch the eclipse.

According to a post by Wortham ISD, emergency personnel and county authorities have indicated the possibility of significant delays on roadways and with emergency response due to the additional guests in the area.

Students will not have to make up the missed day due to the bank of instructional minutes in the current school calendar.

Teague ISD has April 8 as a bad weather day on their official school calendar so students will not be in school on that day.

Dew ISD and Fairfield ISD still have scheduled school days at this time.

Mexia ISD announced last week that it would close as a precautionary measure as well. MISD posted that authorities support the closure of schools in the region on this day due to expected high volume of traffic and the load it may place on roads and communication infrastructure.

Authorities are encouraging local residents to stay off the roadways with the increased number of travelers traveling in the area. They are also encouraging locals to get what is needed before the weekend and to fuel vehicles. Internet and cell service could also be interrupted.
