    Out of 29 schools, the Fairfield Eagles took third place overall at the Region II Division III 3A Powerlifting Meeting on Saturday, March 9, at West High School.

    Fairfield scored a total of 29 points behind Troy with 37 points and Little River Academy with 31 points. A total of 134 boys lifted in the meet. Fourteen boys competed at the meet for Fairfield.

    When all was said and done, five Eagles advanced to the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene on Saturday, March 23. They are Jose Gutierrez, Eli Castillo, Collin Glass, Landon Salinas, and Brady Williams.

    “As they have done all season, this group of state qualifiers battled all day to earn their trip,” Coach Kevin Childers said. “The goal always is to medal.”

    Jose Gutierrez took third place in the 114 class with a squat of 365 pounds, bench press of 200 pounds, and deadlift of 315 pounds for a total of 880 pounds. He qualified for state by his qualifying total.

    In the 132 division, Eli Castillo grabbed third place and qualified for state by his qualifying total of 1,100 pounds. He had a squat of 400 pounds, bench press of 265 pounds, and deadlift of 435 pounds.

    Collin Glass won the silver in the 165 class with a squat of 460 pounds, bench press of 335 pounds, and deadlift of 480 pounds for a total of 1,275 pounds.

    In the 242 division, Landon Salinas garnered first place with a squat of 650 pounds, bench press of 465 pounds, and deadlift of 570 pounds for a total of 1,685 pounds.

    Brady Williams won the gold in the 275 class with a squat of 670 pounds, bench press of 460 pounds, and deadlift of 480 pounds for a total of 1,610 pounds.

    In the 114 division, Colton Harvell placed fourth with a squat of 315 pounds, bench press of 160 pounds, and deadlift of 345 pounds.

    Austin Solis placed seventh in the 132 class with a squat of 350 pounds, bench press of 275 pounds, and deadlift of 350 pounds.

    In the 148 class, Dio Azura took fourth place and Armondo Charles ninth place. Azura had a squat of 400 pounds, bench press of 270 pounds, and deadlift of 460 pounds. Charles had a squat of 400 pounds, bench press of 260 pounds, and deadlift of 410 pounds.

    Mason Edwards placed 11th in the 198 division with a squat of 425 pounds, bench press of 330 pounds, and deadlift of 400 pounds.

    In the 242 class, Jonathan Allen took 11th place with a squat of 455 pounds, bench press of 360 pounds, and deadlift of 450 pounds.

    River Bonds finished seventh in the 275 class with a squat of 550 pounds, bench press of 415 pounds, and deadlift of 450 pounds.

    Also competing for Fairfield were Gage Wendt and Darion Weatherall. However, they both bombed out in the competition.
