Fairhaven football set for state title defense: 2024 Blue Devils schedule

All eyes will be on Fairhaven High football this fall as the Blue Devils look to defend their MIAA Div. 6 state championship from a year ago.

After winning its third straight South Coast Conference Gold Division championship under head coach Derek Almeida during the regular season, Fairhaven won three straight playoff games, including a 26-22 victory over Salem in the Div. 6 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. It was the Blue Devils’ fourth Super Bowl victory in school history and the first since 2000.

In the title game, Justin Marques carried the ball an MIAA Super Bowl record 46 times for 228 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Marques also broke his own Fairhaven High single-season touchdown record with 38 scores — 36 rushing and two receiving. He finished his junior year as the school’s all-time career touchdown leader with 68 TDs, breaking Nate Pickup’s mark of 41 set in 1992.

Fairhaven will kick off its state title defense on the road at Durfee on Friday, Sept. 6.

The last time a SouthCoast football team won back-to-back state titles was in 2014 and 2015 by Dartmouth High.
