In 2022, MIAA realignment sent perennial contender Medfield down to Division 3. Many considered it the heavy favorite in its new home, and they weren’t entirely wrong. Medfield was the No. 1 postseason seed its first year in Division 3, but fell to Norwell in the state championship game. It promptly graduated 26 seniors; the Warriors were No. 5 in last year’s playoffs, losing in the semis — again to Norwell.
Post-Karen Read trial: What is being done about police accountability?
The fallout from the Karen Read trial continued last week with the announcement that a Canton police officer with ties to the case was placed on paid administrative leave. Only days earlier, Massachusetts State Police announced that Trooper Michael Proctor, the lead investigator in the Read case, would be suspended without pay indefinitely after “unprofessional” text messages came to light during the trial and questions about his bias in the case were raised. State Police said an internal affairs investigation remains ongoing.

A woman who ignored her veterinarian’s advice to euthanize her dog but instead took him home to die did not commit a crime, the Supreme Judicial Court decided Monday in a case brought by state prosecutors and supported by multiple animal rights groups.

Big Y supermarket discovered skimmers south of the border in two of its Connecticut stores last month. The grocery chain reports an unknown individual has attached a skimming device to one single terminal in each of its Naugatuck and Plainville locations. back on June 29th. At the present time, there are no reports of a similar incident in Massachusetts.

Yankee Candle to lay off 100 workers in Massachusetts
DEERFIELD - Yankee Candle, the scented candle company based in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, is set to lay off about 100 employees at a distribution facility.A WARN notice filed with the state says the layoffs will take effect on Sept. 9.A spokesperson for parent company Newell Brands said distribution operations at the 27 Yankee Candle Way facility are being relocated."The distribution facility will remain open, but as part of our consolidation efforts, we are reducing the number of employees working there," the spokesperson said.
